The (short) story of my life

I was born on June 1, 1958 in Salt Lake where my father was attending the University of Utah. After he finished his undergraduate work, we moved to Birmingham, Alabama for medical school. When my father graduated from medical school he joined the Army so over the next few years our family had the opportunity to live in several different cities, including Honolulu, Ft. Knox, San Antonio, and Colorado Springs. We finally settled in Decatur, Alabama where I met and in 1979 married Robert (Butch) Green.

I have always loved to write but decided to make a serious attempt at writing a novel during the fall of 1999. It took me 8 months to complete my first book which was later rejected by publishers. My second attempt, Hearts in Hiding, was published in May of 2001.

I am very thankful for the opportunity to write books, but there can be no question that the greatest accomplishments of my life were - first marrying Butch Green and second - becoming the mother of the eight greatest people I know.

                                                                             The Green Children -

Sarah Catherine - Cathy is our ward organist and Achievment Days Leader. She's proofreading for a court reporter and does custom burp cloths (check out her page on my website) to make a little extra money at home. She and her husband, Ricky, have two incredibly beautiful daughters, Abbie Grace and Anderson Claire. They are settled into their new house and enjoying the summer.

Laura Amanda - Laura, Josh and Harrison are in Vancouver, Washington - near Portland - until the end of August. Josh is working hard training for his new job. Laura is enjoying the chance to be a stay home mom - but it's hot (and they don't have air conditioning) and she's stranded without a car while Josh is working (all the time) so she's ready to head to Utah.

James Robert - Jamie and Paris are back in Alabama! They have an opportunity to buy into Subways through Paris's parents so they are here and will pursue education and business simultaneously. So far Jamie loves working in their Subway and the big news is - Paris is expecting a baby in January! We are all so excited!

Grace Elizabeth - Grace will end her employment in the Human Resources Department of Sundance Ski Resort next week. She has loved her job and her coworkers and the whole environment at Sundance - but she wants to get back into school and the only way we can do that is for her to come home for at least a semester. We're getting the guest room ready for her and are trying to line up a part time job. Everyone is so anxious to have her HOME!!!

John Thomas - Tommy left the MTC in South Africa today (Weds July 23). He's on a plane as I type and will be in Kampala, Uganda in a few hours. He'll spend the night at the mission home and tomorrow will be assigned to a 'trainer' companion. They'll do some training together at the mission home and then head out to his first assignment.  We miss him and he's missing us - which I don't think he really expected. But he's doing great.

Emily Anne - The Bessemer Public Library is moving back to it's original (and renovated) location in downtown Bessemer. So for the next 6 weeks the library is closed to the public while they pack up and move. This means no nights or weekends and Emily is thrilled about that. She had fun at Youth Conference and is praying more than anyone else that Butch is able to get off on Friday Aug 1st so we can make a quick weekend trip to Nauvoo. We'd like to meet Grace there and then she'd have someone to ride with her the rest of the way to Alabama. But we won't know until Monday so we're all about to die of suspense (especially Emily).

Joseph Andrew - Andy has enjoyed his summer so far. He has had the opportunity to work for our Bishop and his sons (one is Andy's age). He loves earning a little extra money and has plans to spend it on new school clothes. We found out this week that our transfer requests for McAdory Middle and High School were approved - so both he and Clay will be changing schools. Andy's blue form has expired so we're planning a trip to get shots as soon as he has a day off. Then we can register.

William Clayton - To hear Clay tell it - he hasn't enjoyed his summer all that much. He's been bored (since I'm not all that exciting). He's had lots of time to play Xbox and watch TV and Cathy takes him swimming at her inlaw's house and he's been to several movies and might have a trip to Nauvoo in his future. But the summer has centered around getting Tommy off and now getting Grace home and getting me a job and arranging for the school switch. So I guess he has been more ignored than he's used to. Hopefully he'll survive these last couple of weeks before school starts.
